- NOTES
THE PLATTSBUTGH BOYS was a finalist in the 2010 World Wide Penguin Press/Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards. It received rave reviews as one of the top fifty selected from ten thousand entries. My screenplay version, THE KNIGHTS OF BARN CASTLE, also made the semifinals in the Sundance, Fade-In, Writers Network, and Austin competitions.
Some comments from readers, teachers and critics:
“Huck Finn meets Red Dawn…a great piece of storytelling in the same vein as Twain…a sure-fire way to pique kid’s interest in this country’s history.” (H. Murphy)
“Brings history to life…the young people who read this book will find parts of themselves in the characters and wonder, ‘What would I do?’” (E. Gunn)
“…a wonderfully written and remarkable true tale that should never have been left out of our history books.” (L. Hoffman)
”…a wonderful addition to the history of our early days as Americans.” (P. George)
“…breathes life into ordinary children forced to confront an adult’s world…” (J. Watson)
“…incredible story that should inspire our youth to believe in themselves and to never underestimate their ability to impact their world.” (J. Smith)
“…the most compelling fiction is that which is viewed through the clarity and innocence of childhood…and reminds us of the real cost of warfare.” (M. Cartmell)
“….our nation’s youth…responded to Harry Potter because he and his friends were average teens who saved their world…but they required magic. How much more meaningful would it be for them to hear about real children who saved their own country from an invading army using nothing more than courage and brains?” (J. Dunn)
